Raising money for brain injury survivors

Why is May always such a busy month for our Serious Injury Solicitors here at CFG Law? No, not because of the increasing magnetism of the beer garden, not the increased number of trips to Sainsbury’s for lunch to snatch 15 minutes of Vitamin D and not even because of the endless booking of summer holidays! It’s busy because May is always when Action for Brain Injury Week comes around. This year was no exception with members of the firm rolling up their sleeves and donning their hats to make the 7th – 14th May an unforgettable week all to raise money for an unforgettable charity - the Headway Group of Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde.

Associate Solicitor, Leanne Tattam at CFG Law has longstanding experience in dealing with claims for clients who have suffered an acquired brain injury, alongside supporting their families through often the most difficult time in their lives. She is, in addition, a Director and Trustee of Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde a group affiliated to Headway, the Brain Injury Association.  We asked Leanne why she dedicates her time and commitment to the running of this charity to which she explained;

“Not everyone who has sustained a brain injury has the ability to make a claim, but for those who sustain theirs through a bleed to the brain, removal of a tumour, contacting a virus, hypoxia, anorexia etc., the effects are no less. The NHS are fantastic but resources can only stretch so far, often leaving brain injury survivors lost and confused with little input over the years stretching ahead. In low socioeconomic areas of the country, such as parts of Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde, support from charities such as ours, is the main support these people get, so we strive to do all that we can to ensure it continues.”

With this in mind Leanne, shown here crossing the finish line alongside one of her fellow Directors, kicked off the week with a 10K run raising over £2000 for the charity, encouraged by their own mascot, Izzy!

The week then culminated with CFG Law getting involved in Hats for Headway Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde, where, through the power of lots of cake (including a homemade giant Jaffa cake), and the wearing of silly hats, we were able to raise not only further funds for this charity but awareness of the much-needed work that Headway do to help those with brain injuries.

Through working with charities such as Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde, amongst so many others, our specialist team of solicitors at CFG Law understand not only the complexities of the legal case but the issues, on a very practical level, that clients and their families may face. Common issues can include dealing with heightened fatigue, memory problems, depression and feelings of being overloaded, as well as additional stress due to financial concerns where they may not be at a stage to return to work.
