Spinal Injury Claims

We understand the effect that a spinal cord injury has on the person and on the wider family and friends of the injured person.

Claiming compensation for a spinal cord injury

Spinal injury claims are complex and require thorough investigation.  Compensation for a spinal cord injury enables the injured person to access funding for ongoing treatment and rehabilitation to ensure that they have the best possible chance of rebuilding their lives, secure in the knowledge they have sufficient funds to do so for the rest of their lives.

On average, every day in the UK, three people are paralysed by spinal cord injury.  The main concerns for the injured person and their family after a severe spinal cord injury is the wellbeing and recovery and the impact this traumatic event is going to have.

At CFG Law, we are here to help and provide support and guidance from day one to help you and your family, allowing for an absolute focus on getting the best outcomes in terms of your recovery, wellbeing and independence.

How we can help rebuild your life after a spinal cord injury

Our purpose is to help each client to be able to lead as happy and fulfilling a life as possible. Our focus from day one is to help rebuild your life, by providing support and guidance every step along the way.

We are a team of spinal cord injury solicitors that focus on doing what we can to help meet our clients’ needs and expectations. We are not here just to get you the compensation you deserve but to provide support and rehabilitation to begin to rebuild you and your families’ lives after your spinal injury cord accident.

What is the spinal injury claims process?

From initial contact, we will meet with you and your family where we encourage you to speak openly about your spinal cord injury and your needs. This is a great opportunity for you to speak freely and for us to answer any of the questions you may have in regards to the compensation claims process. We will explain the benefits of pursuing a claim, the chance of success and how we can help rebuild your life. All initial advice is FREE without obligation and entirely confidential.

If you are happy to proceed with us, your case will be handled by a Senior Solicitor, one experienced in spinal cord injury litigation (or cases) and supported by a dedicated team; including another Solicitor, Trainee Solicitor or Paralegal, together with one of our Client Support Managers.

We will help gain access to early funding to put in place a bespoke rehabilitation and support programme; which can include, for example, additional therapy treatments, aids and equipment and care to allow you to be discharged at the most appropriate time and to the most appropriate place.

On discharge from the hospital, we will liaise with you and your family and help with planning for the future. We will help access funding from the Defendant Insurers to help with a support and rehabilitation package, including areas over and above what can normally be provided through the NHS or local authorities.

We recognise that those affected by spinal cord injury goes beyond the injured person and that families and friends can be impacted too. We work with our clients and their families to help achieve their goals through support and rehabilitation, as well as guiding those involved through every step of the way.

How much compensation can I claim for a spinal cord injury?

Valuing a spinal cord injury claim can be difficult. We will identify the best experts (for example barristers, experts (medical and on liability) and financial advisors) to work with us to help secure the maximum compensation award and making sure all your future needs have been investigated and costed for.

The exact amount of the spinal injury claim settlement will be dependent on a number of factors the court takes into consideration; including, but not limited to:

  • Personal trauma.
  • Medical expenses.
  • Travel expenses.
  • Costs for ongoing care.
  • Aids and equipment.
  • Loss of earnings (both current and future).
  • Adaptations to your home to accommodate for your future needs.

We understand the needs of the injured person and their family. Our aim is to provide full support every step of the way and make the process stress free.

What can spinal cord injury compensation help pay for?

Spinal cord injury compensation helps fund the ongoing support and treatment you need as a result of your injury. It pays for access to comprehensive care and treatment whilst helping you gain admission to specialist treatment units.

Compensation is vital to pay for costs and expenses accumulated after your spinal cord injury. This aids in:

  • Gaining access to the best treatment, support and rehabilitation.
  • Helping fund counselling, medical treatment and ongoing therapy.
  • Purchasing and maintaining mobility aids.
  • Funding for vocational support.
  • Alleviating debts since the injury.

Peer support by the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA)

We understand that after a serious spinal cord injury, injured people experience feelings of loneliness and isolation. This is why we also work closely with the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and sponsor their Peer Support Worker, Andy Wharton.

Andy has first-hand experience of living with a spinal cord injury and can offer advice and support for newly injured people and their families.

We have a dedicated team of spinal cord injury solicitors who make a positive difference to our clients’ lives – helping with your claim is only part of our service, helping you to get your life back on track as quickly as possible is our primary aim.
