*Joe successfully rebuilt his life after sustaining multiple injuries in a road collision while driving his moped. With a £500k settlement, he regained financial stability, accessed the orthotic support he needed, and he can look ahead to achieving his long-term goals.
Joe was involved in a road traffic collision when another driver turned across his path while he was riding his moped. He sustained multiple injuries, including complex pelvic fractures that led to permanent nerve damage and foot drop, fractures to his tibia, fibula and ankle, as well as psychological injuries and a head injury.
Challenges
When Joe first came to us, liability had not been formally admitted, and there were no witnesses or CCTV footage to support his version of events.
- Joe had limited support and was living in a rental accommodation that was unsuitable for his wheelchair and reduced mobility.
- He was unable to make necessary adaptations to his home due to restrictions from his landlord.
- With no savings and being unable to return to work despite engaging with occupational health, Joe was under significant financial pressure.
How we helped
Joe was initially keen to accept early settlement offers, including one made 12 months after the collision. We advised him to continue pursuing his claim, resulting in an additional £355,000 in compensation compared to the initial offer.
- We secured £80,000 in interim payments, enabling Joe to access a wide range of rehabilitation support.
- This included physiotherapy, including shockwave therapy, psychotherapy, occupational therapy, vocational support, and bespoke private orthotics.
Outcomes
An initial offer of £170,000 was made, but through continued negotiation, we achieved a final settlement of £525,000.
- We also connected Joe with a financial adviser to help him manage his compensation effectively.
- Joe now plans to buy his own home, enhance his orthotic support, and return to work in a new career.
