Overview
Lewis was involved in a road traffic collision when a car pulled out in front of his motorbike, causing significant orthopaedic injuries, including a fractured pelvis.
- When Lewis got in touch with us, he was being represented by another firm of solicitors but had become frustrated by their lack of communication and support. He was unable to speak to anyone directly and was not receiving the help he needed to move his case forward.

Challenges
When Lewis came to us, he was still in a lot of pain and dealing with ongoing problems that were limiting his mobility and day-to-day life.

How we helped
As soon as Lewis transferred his case to us, we arranged to visit him in person and quickly set up medical appointments to get his case moving.
- We stayed in close contact with and visited him at home regularly to support him and reduce his stress. We were always available when he needed to talk.
- We secured interim payments of £85,000, which allowed Lewis to pay for private treatment and make some improvements to his home.
- Although the defendant insurers were slow to engage and hard to communicate with, we kept pushing ahead.
- To show the true impact of his injuries, we collected statements from Lewis’ family, friends and work colleagues, describing how much his life had changed.
Outcome
An offer of £460,000 was made, but we continued building the case and arranged a Joint Settlement Meting, where we secured a settlement of over £1 million.
- The settlement reflects the long-term impact of Lewis’ injuries and gives him financial security for the future.
- Lewis also required support managing his settlement, so we set up a Personal Injury Trust to protect his means-tested benefits and put him in touch with a financial adviser to help him plan for the future.
- We are also supporting Lewis to reduce the legal costs claimed by his previous solicitor. We haven’t taken any success fee or shortfall from Lewis’ compensation, and we are challenging the earlier firm’s costs so that Lewis can keep more of his compensation. His former solicitors not only would have taken a large part of his compensation in fees, but they had also failed to properly explore how his injuries have affected his life, likely leading to a much lower offer.
This case shows the importance of clear communication and putting the client first. By acting quickly and supporting Lewis throughout, we helped reduce his stress and built a strong case that reflected the true impact on his life.
