David Hilton

Partner and Head of Court of Protection

David Hilton

David is a Partner and Head of Court of Protection at CFG Law. Having joined the team in 2020, David has a wealth of experience helping people with all aspects of Court of Protection, lasting powers of attorney and Personal Injury Trusts.

David has helped hundreds of people and their families who have lost capacity, either through injury or illness or old age, to manage their property and financial affairs as a professional deputy. In his role as a professional deputy, David deals with many different aspects, including care provision and entitlement, selling, buying and adapting property, investments, administrative tasks such as paying invoices and managing bills, as well as ensuring entitlement to all welfare benefits and funding.

Building relationships with families is key to David's role, ensuring he can provide continual support to them, both during their claim and for the rest of their lives. In making decisions on behalf of other people, David understands this is a privileged position of always doing what is right for them and in their best interests.

As well as professional deputyship, David also helps other people who want to apply for deputyship to the Court of Protection on behalf of a family member who has lost capacity. He also provides advice to people who have been appointed as deputy on how to manage their relatives' affairs. David can also help people with contested Court of Protection applications.

David has vast experience in helping people to prepare lasting powers of attorney when someone wants to appoint another person to make decisions on their behalf should they lose capacity to do this themselves.

In addition to these areas, David assists with setting up Trusts for people to protect their compensation and means-tested benefits, as well as helping people with advice on gifting and statutory wills.
